For Southern gardeners and gardeners in warmer coastal climates, we’ve compiled this list of superior landscape plants that improve home value and create atmospheres for your family and friends to enjoy.

Red Hot Embers™ Ardisia (Ardisia crenata sPg-3-001’) features unique foliage and seven months of berries that are attractive to wildlife. Pale pink flowers in spring contrast against hot pink new growth with maroon markings that darkens to a deep red as the season progresses. Large clusters of brilliant red berries from fall to spring. This slow grower reaches 18 to 30 inches tall by 12 to 24 inches wide and prefers shade to partial shade. It’s an excellent small shrub for shady southern gardens or an ornamental container selection to brighten up winter indoors. It is cold hardy to USDA Zone 8.

 

Treasure Crown™ Ardisia (Ardisia japonica ‘sPg-3-011’) is an evergreen groundcover with unique foliage and seven months of berries that are attractive to wildlife. Burgundy new growth matures to a light green with white margins. This slow grower reaches 12 to 18 inches tall by 30 to 36 inches wide and prefers full shade. It’s also an excellent groundcover for shady southern gardens or an ornamental container selection to brighten up winter indoors. It is cold hardy to USDA Zone 7.

 

Orange Frost™ Hardy Satsuma (Citrus reticulata 'Gremoy47') is a small, spreading tree with glossy, dark evergreen foliage. White spring flowers add a heavy fragrance of orange blossoms. In winter it produces juicy, nearly-seedless and easy-peeling fruit. This vigorous grower matures at 10 to 12 feet tall in the ground and 6 feet tall in a container. It’s perfect as a patio tree and is cold hardy to USDA Zone 8b.

 

 

Arctic Frost™ Hardy Satsuma (Citrus reticulata 'Gremoy79') is a small, spreading evergreen tree with glossy, dark evergreen foliage. White spring flower add a heady fragrance of orange blossoms. In winter it produces juicy, nearly-seedless and easy-peeling fruit. This vigorous grower matures at 8 to 12 feet tall in the ground and 6 feet tall in a container. It’s perfect as a patio tree and is cold hardy to USDA Zone 8a.

 

 

Bumper™ Satsuma (Citrus reticulata 'Gremoy8’) has glossy, dark green foliage, fragrant flowers in spring and summer, and aromatic fruits that ripen in winter and early spring. It boasts a sweet-tart flavor on a seedless, easy-peeling fruit. It is a vigorous grower reaching 10 to 12 feet tall in the ground and 5 to 7 feet tall in a container. It’s perfect as a patio tree and is cold hardy to USDA Zone 9.

 

 

Spring Frost™ Distylium PPAF (Distylium x  ‘sPg-3-007’) is a spreading, evergreen shrub with late winter interest. Red tassel-like blooms cover the shrub from late winter to early spring. This spreading grower reaches 2 feet tall by 3 to 4 feet wide and prefers full sun. It’s perfect as a foundation planting or small hedge and cold hardy to USDA Zone 7.

 

Eureka Gold™ Dwarf Yaupon PP20786 (Ilex vomitoria ‘HOGY’) is a compact, upright holly features yellow-green foliage. It’s a moderate grower, reaching 4 to 5 feet tall and wide and prefers sun to partial shade. Use as a specimen plant or as a hedge. It’s cold hardy to USDA Zone 6.

 

Ruby Snow™ Loropetalum PPAF (Loropetalum chinense sPg-3-002’) is a self-cleaning, evergreen shrub that holds its color well in summer. Clusters of white tassel-like flowers contrast against dark burgundy foliage from late winter to early spring. This moderate grower reaches 6 feet tall and wide if not sheared and prefers full sun. It’s perfect in borders, foundation plantings and mass plantings, or as a container plant, and it is cold hardy to USDA Zone 7.

 

Sassy Lady™ Nandina (Nandina domestica 'sPg-3-006') is an evergreen shrub that features exceptional fall foliage. Green willow-like foliage in spring and summer turns deep red in fall and maintains color throughout winter. This moderate grower reaches 5 feet tall and 4 feet wide. It’s perfect for beds, borders and mass plantings and is cold hardy to USDA Zone 7.

 

Sweet Pink™ Bush Cherry (Prunus jacquemontii ‘Greswpk’) is a heat-loving bush cherry that is attractive to wildlife. Extremely dense, pink flowers cover the stems and branches in early spring. It grows to 8-10 feet with comparable spread and prefers full sun. It works perfectly as a foundation planting or small hedge, and is cold hardy to USDA Zone 6.

 

Moonlit Lace™ Viburnum PPAF (Viburnum x ‘sPg-3-024’) is a drought tolerant, deer-resistant shrub with rounded white flower clusters in spring above glossy green and burgundy foliage. It grows 3 to 4 feet tall by 4 feet wide and prefers partial shade. It’s great for use as a hedge or in mass plantings and is cold hardy to USDA Zone 7.
